The Arabesque Machine

Post by Guest on Sat Apr 16, 2011 5:51 pm

Alright. So, this is a story idea I've been having for a while and I wanted to flesh it out as a c.c first.

1855. The Industrial Revolution has begun and machines have replaced hundreds and thousands of workers, forcing them into the city. Paris is no exception to this, the population growing everyday.

In the center of the thriving city is the Paris Opera, famous world-wide for its beautiful singing and ballet. Dancers, singers, and actors crowd into small boarding houses built into the theatre where they live and work. Crew members come from all over Paris to earn a living repairing lights, building sets, and performing the countless other jobs around the theatre.

But life at the Paris Opera changes drastically when one day, Maria Bartolini, the prima donna, turns up dead underneath the grand staircase. The only mark left on her was a small paper with the symbol of a black weed strangling a rose.

Okay, so in case you didn't get the point, a group of performers, crew, and audience members decide they're going to figure out who killed Senora Bartolini.

RULES:
1. Posts must be AT LEAST five sentences long.
2. Correct grammar please.
4. Try to keep the boy/girl ratio at 1:1. For every girl, make a boy.
3. Have fun!

Sighs... shall we get going, at least?

Nicolette:
Pain was shooting through my toes like wildfire, searing up to my hipbone and licking at my core. I gasped for air and glanced down at my shoe. Blood was appearing through the pink satin. It was the fourth little red dot. Metal note. NEVER get Blochs again.
"Mademoiselle Broucard!" I turned nervously to the front where Maestro was sitting. He nodded to the front where our bags were stacked hastily. "Go wrap your toes."

Armand:
Ah, what a day to be in the city. Fresh air, a breeze blowing by, the trees all leafing out. Simply a wonderful day to be in existence. Especially after your father's told you to go get yourself married. That always throws things into perspective. Shoving my hands into my overcoat, I kicked rather viciously at a pebble, sending it flying into the throng of pedestrians.

Kayleb: I started cleaning the designated areas. It got old after a while, but at least I was able to make money for our family. The opera house was pretty empty right now, apart from everyone rehearsing.

Serina: I smiled, took a deep breath before opening my mouth, and let out a loud note that echoed through the entire stage. The performance tonight was going to be fantastic. I just knew it.

Nicolette:
"Good job today, Nicole."
"Merci."
Slinging my bag over my shoulder, I left the studio, limping slightly. As usual, I was the last to leave, ensuring that the opera house was almost empty. As I wandered through the halls, my boots made a thin clacking noise, irritating and soothing at the same time.

Kayleb: I was cleaning and accidentally bumped into a girl slightly. "I'm really sorry!" I exclaimed.

I smiled shyly at the boy. He looked about my age and was slowly turning bright red. "It's alright. I should've been looking where I was going."

I crossed my arms and smiled at him. "Come now, you must have some talent. I mean, the opera's never looked cleaner, that's for sure."

"Well, do you do anything else? Draw, sing, make expensive greeting cards? There's a talent in almost everything, you know"

Kayleb: I shook my head. "Pencils run away from me, I'm that bad. Singing is a no go, I can't carry a tune in a bucket. And expensive greeting cards? You can forget that too."

Kayleb: I nodded at that. "I'm okay at sports. But I'm too short to be much use." I followed her, continuing to clean the floors.
