Skulduggery Pleasant: Skeleton Detective

Post by Guest on Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:19 pm

Who is Skulduggery Pleasant? He's a wise-cracking detective, powerful magician, master of dirty tricks and burglary (in the name of the greater good, of course). As well as ally, protector, and mentor to Stephanie Edgely, a very unusual and darkly talented twelve-year-old. And, oh yeah -- he's dead.

***

I absolutely love the Skulduggery Pleasant series, but I've had little luck finding other people who do, or who have ever even heard of the series. Is their anyone on here who has heard of, and/or shares my love of, the amazing skeleton we call Skulduggery Pleasant?

I ask this because I would like to make a chat based on the books, but I'm not sure how well it will go over if no one here has ever heard of them...

I see Pleasant books almost everywhere I go and I find it real hard to believe if no one's ever heard of them XD

Cool, I'm not the only one who loves Skulduggery and Co. Smile

Nobody in my school has heard of them at all, but I think they're some of the funniest books I've ever read.

(No, I have not read that series, but I really want to. I have, however, read the only ever authorized sequel. Peter Pan in Scarlet, by Geraldine McCaughrean, won a contest set by Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, the holders of the copyright on Peter Pan, to become the first actual sequel. It's a really good book. Smile)

I personally only count the true Peter books written by JM Barrie, no matter who holds the copyrights Smile

Haha okay then XD

@BariJoy
I've researched Wicca a while back, and after that you'd be very surprised how some things in the Pleasant series relate to Wicca!

Really? That's pretty cool. I find Wicca very interesting, though I don't know much about it. Would you mind sharing a few instances of how the Skulduggery Pleasant series relate to Wicca?

The names. In both thingies you have three names; one your given, one you're born with and one you choose.

The names: That's really strangely awesome. I wonder if Derek Landy got the name idea by studying Wicca, or through some other such way. Or if he just decided on it and it's pure coincidence(sp).
